Year End Habits for Success and Growth

by Lloyd Franke & Gary Lewis

“Be not afraid of growing slowly. Be only afraid of standing still.”

—Chinese Proverb

I have a poster that states “Time flies whether you’re having fun or not!” From the business perspective, one could say “Time flies whether you are achieving your goals or not!”

At this time each year, we typically look back to evaluate our performance for the past 12 months by asking questions such as:

  • How did the business do this year? Am I satisfied with the results?
  • If not, what changes must take place to do better?
  • How will these changes be implemented next year?

Are you resolved to make changes and improvements to do better next year? If so, the following brief overview of some year-end routines will help guide your business progress in 2006 and beyond.

Introducing New HardHat Technologies Flex Tools & Reporting Kit Plug-ins for Prolog

Always keeping in mind that the goal is to extend the power of Prolog to meet customer needs, HardHat Technologies has put together the Flex Tools & Reporting Kit. Currently we have two tools available, Prolog Website Document Archive and Prolog Manager License Release. These tools are designed to enhance and extend the use of Prolog products. HardHat Technologies is committed to developing and improving the Flex Tools & Reporting Kit with pertinent products to empower customer productivity when going about their everyday tasks.

HardHat Technologies has worked with Prolog customers for many years now. This experience gives us great insight into customer needs, which sometimes go above and beyond what the current core application offers.

Prolog WebSite Document Archive allows you to put all uploaded project documents in Prolog WebSite onto a CD you can pass along to your customer at the end of a project.

Prolog Manager License Release tool addresses the problem with running Prolog remotely over Citrix, Terminal Services, or a VPN is if users get disconnected or do not gracefully close their session, the license will not be released in Prolog. The Prolog Manager License Release tool eliminates this problem by automatically detecting and releasing licenses bound to an inactive session so this is never a problem.

Some of the things we are planning to offer in these 90 minutes sessions are:

Prolog Tip - Using the Record Log to Track Changes to Individual Fields

by Charity Evers, Meridian Application Specialist

Though many users are familiar with tracking activity using the Activity Log, you may not be as familiar with the Record Log which tracks changes to individual fields. It provides a finer level of detail when tracking the changes users may make.

Tracking changes using the Record Log is enabled on a field-by-field basis. You do not have to enable the Activity Log first - the two types of Log work independently.

To enable the tracking of record changes:

  1. Right-click on the label for the field you want to track
  2. Select the "Edit Properties" option from the menu that appears
  3. Check the box that says, "Log Activity"
  4. If necessary, change the option under "Applies to" to match your needs: should this track for the entire portfolio, for the current project, or for the projects you specify
  5. Click the "Apply Changes" button
Now that you've enabled the tracking for an individual field, you'll want to view the log. To do this, make sure the record that you're interested in is open and your cursor is anywhere on the form. Then, go to the Tools menu and select Record Log. All logged activities for the current record will display, displaying the time and date the record was changed, the field and its new value, and who made the change.
